ChosenDrink

Class project

Aug 2023 – Dec 2023

Problem

There are often many options for alcoholic beverages at restaurants and bars, which makes people have a hard time choosing. Most people only select one drink at these places, and choosing the wrong drink can ruin the mood if it wasn’t the correct choice.  Helping people choose the right drink that suits their taste and other factors can save a lot of money, reduce stress and make people happy.

Project Goals

Research

  • Conduct research on how people make decisions on buying cocktails at restaurants or bars, and what are some challenges they face.

Design

  • Create a mobile app designed to assist users in selecting the drink that best suits their needs.

The Team (Solo Project)

  • Researcher & Designer - Mingxi (Sissi) Wu

Results

Developed an end-to-end research plan and conducted a series of studies, deriving design requirements from the findings. Designed an app in Figma, complete with wireframes and prototypes.

Research Questions

  • How do people make decisions on purchasing cocktails at restaurants or bars?

  • What are some challenges that people face when purchasing cocktails?

  • When it comes to ordering cocktails, what aspects do people seek help on?

Research Timeline

Comparative Analysis

User Interviews

Recruited people that the researcher personally knew for safety purposes. A total of 5 participants were recruited, having 3 in restaurant settings and 2 in bar settings. Participants had different levels of alcohol preferences, tolerance and experience for a diverse set of data.

There are some limitations with this recruitment method. Since the researcher knew the interviewees personally, it can create some bias for the data. In addition to that, since this is a relatively small sample size, data can probably not reach saturation.
